Post-purchase enrollment

Converting a paying non-member into a member in the moments after checkout, at the payment terminal or through the receipt.

Post-purchase enrollment targets the most qualified prospect a program will ever meet: the customer who just paid. They are standing at the till, wallet in hand, purchase complete. Post-purchase enrollment offers membership in that moment, and ends with a pass in their wallet before they reach the door.

The offer can arrive on two surfaces. On capable payment terminals, the terminal itself can present enrollment after payment, including over Apple VAS, so joining is a tap on the same device that took the payment. Everywhere else, the receipt carries it: a QR code on the printed or digital receipt opens the enrollment flow, the customer joins in a few fields, and the pass lands in their wallet.

What makes the moment work is that nothing is asked of the queue. Staff say one sentence or nothing at all, the till is not held up, and the customer completes enrollment on their own phone in their own time. Compare that with the traditional ask, an app download or a form at the counter, and the conversion mathematics explain themselves.

Post-purchase enrollment complements hosted onboarding: onboarding acquires prospects wherever links and codes can reach them, post-purchase converts buyers at the moment of proof. Together they make the wallet channel an acquisition engine rather than a card format. For how to run the moment in practice, see post-purchase enrollment: the moment most programs miss.
